Get to know Homewise's Sandy Hernandez

You may have seen her at a community event, teaching a class, or chatting about Homewise on Telemundo. Here is your chance to learn more about our very own homeownership advocate and educator extraordinaire Sandy!

How long have you worked at Homewise?

January 5th will be 8 years.

What is your position at Homewise, and how long have you been in that role?

My official title is Senior Home Purchase Advisor; I also hold a dual role as Homebuyer Education Trainer for 8 years.

What is your favorite part of working at Homewise?

Working with families from inquiry, education, and financial counseling to keys in hand at closing.

If you had one bit of advice for anyone getting started working with Homewise, what would it be?

Start by taking a class or speaking to a coach or HPA. At Homewise, we make it a non-intimidating chat that can help you get keys in your hand for your home.

Is there anything else you’d like to add about yourself or your role at Homewise?

I was 14 years old when my immigrant parents had a balloon on a REC Contract; all I knew was we had to move. I later understood if my parents had been educated on REC or mortgage loans, they could have saved that home. This is why I am passionate about educating our families, so this doesn’t happen to someone else. This is why I have stayed in this field for 26 years and have been teaching homebuyer education for 17 years.

With my dual role, I get to go out to the community, engage with prospective homebuyers, and meet families that have already successfully purchased their homes.
