Homewise Receives $25 Million Donation from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving and $10 Million Investment from Anchorum Foundation

Transformative funding to expand affordable housing, first-time homebuyer programs, and energy efficiency lending

Santa Fe and Albuquerque, NM –– December 19, 2024

Homewise is thrilled to announce a transformative investment totaling $35 million with a $25 million donation from MacKenzie Scott’s Yield Giving and a $10 million impact investment from the Anchorum Health Foundation. These extraordinary contributions will directly fund programs that create pathways to affordable homeownership and improve energy efficiency in homes. None of the funding will be allocated to operational costs, ensuring that every dollar is dedicated to expanding Homewise’s impact on individuals, families, and communities.

“The affordable housing crisis is one of the most pressing challenges of our time,” said Mike Loftin, Homewise CEO. “This donation will enable Homewise to deepen our impact and reach more families with the tools and resources needed to build equity through homeownership. We are immensely grateful to Yield Giving and the Anchorum Health Foundation for believing in our vision and supporting our work to strengthen communities.”

“Our vision for addressing the affordable housing crisis depends on collaboration. Investments from a national foundation and a regional health foundation are an exciting first step in bringing new partners together to address one of our biggest challenges and long-term, catalyzing additional funding from the public, private, and philanthropic sectors.” said Jerry Jones, President and CEO of the Anchorum Health Foundation. “It is bold, visionary investments like these that will help increase access to affordable homeownership, improve the overall quality of life and transform our community.”

Together, these funds will allow Homewise to significantly expand its lending programs for first-time homebuyers, helping more families achieve the dream of homeownership. Additionally, the funds will support loans aimed at improving energy efficiency in homes, enabling homeowners to lower utility costs while contributing to sustainability efforts.

Beyond expanding lending programs, the funding also will help Homewise build new affordable housing in both Santa Fe and Albuquerque. Homewise currently has projects totaling over 1,500 new housing units in its pipeline and the MacKenzie Scott donation and Anchorum investment will help Homewise leverage the additional public and private investment necessary to complete these housing projects. Several investors have already expressed interest in leveraging these investments and Homewise anticipates making an announcement about these investments in the first quarter of next calendar year.

Since its founding, Homewise has worked tirelessly to remove barriers to homeownership, offering financial education, counseling, and innovative lending solutions. This transformative donation underscores the organization’s vital role in creating resilient communities through sustainable homeownership opportunities.

Homewise is honored to join the network of nonprofits supported by MacKenzie Scott and Yield Giving, whose mission is to uplift organizations creating meaningful change in their communities.
