HOUSING ASSISTANCE FOR VETERANS

Up to $25,000 for Eligible Veterans and Gold Star Families

HAVEN (Housing Assistance for Veterans) is a federal grant program that provides up to $25,000 for home repairs, accessibility modifications, and down payment assistance for eligible veterans and Gold Star Families. Homewise can help you access these funds and guide you through every step of the process. Eligible veterans, active-duty service members, National Guard and Reserve members, and surviving spouses can now access VA home loans through Homewise. We are proud to add VA loans, we are committed to making sure the veterans and military families we work with have access to every tool available to them.

We’ll help you understand your benefit, determine your eligibility, and find the right path to homeownership in New Mexico.

Who Is This For?

HAVEN is specifically designed for two groups:

Veterans and Service Members with a Service-Connected Disability
You may be eligible if you are a U.S. veteran, active-duty, Reserve, or National Guard member who became disabled as a result of your military service.

Gold Star Families
Immediate family members of a service member who died while serving in the U.S. military are also eligible.

To qualify, your household income must be at or below 165% of the Area Median Income, and the home must be your primary residence in New Mexico.

how It works

  1. Connect With Us
Talk to a Homewise advisor to find out if you qualify. We’ll review your eligibility and walk you through what’s needed.
  2. Gather Your Documents
We’ll help you understand what documentation is required. Such as income verification, proof of disability or Gold Star status, and homeownership or purchase information.
  3. We Submit on Your Behalf
As a participating member institution, Homewise submits the HAVEN application to the Federal Home Loan Bank of Dallas. You don’t have to navigate that process alone.
  4. Funds Are Applied
Once approved, funds are applied directly to your repair project, construction costs, or home purchase.

HAVEN grants are awarded on a first-come, first-served basis. A new round of funding becomes available July 1, 2026, and once it’s gone, it’s gone for the year. If you think you may qualify, the best time to start is now.
